Q: I am an acupuncturist who has had a general practice. Is this course for me?
A: Yes! The course is intended to be a foundational course in Chinese medical specialties, concentrating on the most common conditions which a general practitioner would treat. It differs because it introduces the models of the specialies to provide a different lens on these conditions. By studying a specialty, its models and approach can add insights into your most difficult cases.
The program allows you to take an assessment of your knowledge base and cultivate the areas where you believe that you could benefit. The live online meetings twice a month encourage questions with new models.
These sessions also provide diagnostic skills and clinical training, case studies and keys to diagnosis.
Q: I'm an acupuncture student, can I take this course? A: Yes! If you are a clinical level student this would be a very good course for you. Most acupuncture schools neglect the inclusion of the specialties as part of the degree. To expand your horizons is essential!
It is also a great program as a bridge into clinic, or as a bridge from graduation into the confident establishment of your independent practice. Q: I'm an established acupuncturist. Could this program be right for me?
A: Yes. It is an expansion of knowledge from the specialties. These are rarely all under one umbrella and include interactive sessions to integrate the material.
If needed, the program provides the pause to retool and regain footing. It is formalized opportunity to observe and define your process as a practitioner. Get a chance to discuss difficult cases and clarifications within diagnosis, including tongue diagnosis which often is not well developed as a skill. You will be guided through in ways to sharpen your diagnosis, treatments and formulas.
If you are early in your career or mid career, this is a program to commit to growth.
Q: I’m a MD, ND or relating to Chinese medicine from another healing modality. Is this program for me?
A: It could be. Be in touch before enrollment to discuss the fit. We can evaluate to determine if the core Chinese medical knowledge that is assumed for this program is in place for you from your previous studies and your clinical experience. Reach out by email or phone to begin the conversation.
Q: I am only trained in and only practicing acupuncture (or I am only practicing Chinese herbs). How will it be for me when Evan references the other modality in the class? Will I be lost?
A: No! The emphasis is on the model and application. Evan references both modalities as tools to the same end. It is actually always interesting to hear the specifics of another modality and then have those concepts and applications brought back to the familiar.
Q: What If I can’t attend all or some of the synchronous classes sessions?
A: If you are excited to engage this study with Evan and and you have conflicts, there are alternate possibilities.
You may watch the recorded synchronous classes at a later time. They will generally be uploaded within a few days. Video content is available for the entire course to watch when and where you choose.
You can submit ay questions to Evan ahead of the meetings.
If Wednesdays are an issue in general, or you are living in a time zone which is prohibitive for the live sessions, please express interest. If we can group a cohort of students in your region, it is possible to arrange additional interactive sessions. Evan may be able to accommodate a solution for a personalized interactive solution.

Q: What is the significance of Yao Shan in your name?
A: Yao Shan 藥山 means "Medicine Mountain". The name helps us to hold the character Yao 藥prominently mind as we study herbs together. The idea of music/ resonance / vibration expressed through the herbs is important to us. Herbs are quite literally joy in plant form. The name Yao Shan 藥山 is shared by our clinic as well.
