Studying a Part in Depth - Renew Your Understanding of the Whole

A rotation of Chinese medical specialties: The study of a specialty brings critical insights into a general practice.  This program dedicates time to the models and thought processes of the classical and contemporary clinical specialties.  Evan brings his practical clinical experience to these modules.  These particular specialties were chosen because they form the core of most general practices and lend insight into the complex cases that most contemporary practitioners see every day.

In a general education there are simply not enough hours dedicated to learning the various specialties, with their particular emphasis and models.   Further study is required to understand the developments and gifts of these dimensions of the medicine. These begin to round out an education and offer clinical keys necessary for clear diagnosis.

This ten month rotation of specialties helps develop new perspectives for the practitioner and, hopefully, a renewal of  the wonder of this medicine.  With an introspective eye, the year facilitates an appreciation for our existing skills and fosters emerging growth.

Study of Clinical Specialties
Expanding Understanding of Foundational CM  Concepts

Interactive Sessions: Case Studies

Picture

Case Studies are crucial to understanding the process of healing.  We learn to follow movement of qi by following transformation of a condition.

Evan will lend his experience by offering case studies and students will have opportunities to present patient cases through a supportive, constructive and discerning process.

Interactive Sessions: Honing Diagnostic Skills

Picture
In the interactive sessions, Evan makes diagnostic reasoning a priority.  Attaching the theory to practical examples and real life cases.

This includes pulse analysis and a special emphasis this year will be on tongue diagnosis.  O
nline teaching lends itself particularly well to teaching tongue diagnosis.  The current technology allows for simple and high quality presentations that facilitate study.

Literacy in Integrative Models

Picture
The program will include the integration of biomedical material.  This is particularly emphasized in the modules of Endocrinology and Oncology.

Evan's perspective is to integrate the biomedical models into our Chinese medical model.

The program holds a goal of greater literacy in current Western medical approaches.   Pointers to helpful resources will be posted for those interested in a deep study of the biomedical perspectives.

In each module, Evan offers keys for decoding Western diagnostics to be relevant to Chinese medical lines of inquiry.

Specialties Study
Clinical Reasoning Drawing Subtle Clinical Distinctions

Picture
Evan explains treatment strategies and distinctions through the particular models of each specialty.

The program builds the process of clinical reasoning throughout. This progresses to subtle clinical differentiations.

These models offer treatment strategies and vehicles that impart subtle clinical distinctions, which can open many doors for understanding difficult cases.

Understanding the architecture of the specialty and the patho-mechanisms that they reveal allows the practitioner to diagnosis and treatment with more clarity.

From that clarity, treatments become transmitters of the 意yi/intention of specifics of healing.

Clinical Integration Rooted in Diagnostic Skills

Picture
Diagnostics are demonstrated throughout the course of study using using case studies and clear examples of pulse and tongue.

Twice a month, students will meet online with Evan where tongue and pulse presentations will be given to clarify the material of the monthly module and root it in clinical practice.  There are four sessions for each specialty module.

As the program progresses, students will present case studies.  Meetings will leave ample time for ‘Question and Answer’ and discussion.

The study comes to fruition in your treatment room.

Online Learning

The lectures are divided into high qualities video segments making the material easily accessible and digestible in an online format.  Students can view the material in succession and look up individual topics, herb profiles or formula breakdowns, and acupuncture point selections that they want to see again.  This format facilitates the study of a large volume of material while at the same time providing an easy reference tool for students and practitioners.
